Fragment Face Necklace
Fragment Face Necklace
A fragment of delicately carved ornamental stonework depicting a partially downcast face adorns the wall of Sir John Soane’s Museum. Using highly detailed 3D scanning this is reimagined at a new scale in gold plated recycled oxidised silver, bringing to life the original craftsman’s detailed carving.
Sir John Soane’s Museum’s notes on the original fragment:
A female head fragment in Pentelic marble in the Greek fifth century style. Identical size and workmanship in detail with the Turned Head Fragment from the frieze enrichment of the Forum of Trajan, Rome but unable to confirm this. Acquired by Soane from the collection of the neoclassical sculptor John Flaxman. 98-117 AD, Trajanic.
All of the collection is hand made in London’ s iconic Hatton Garden jewellery district.
