Fragment Torso Pendant
Fragment Torso Pendant
A fragment of delicately carved ornamental stonework depicting a male torso adorns the wall of Sir John Soane’s Museum. Using highly detailed 3D scanning this is reimagined at a new scale in gold plated recycled oxidised silver, bringing to life the original craftsman’s detailed carving.
Sir John Soane’s Museum notes on the original fragment:
Torso fragment of a statuette of the doryphoros (spear-bearer) completed as a replica of an original Polykleitos bronze from 5th century BC. Pentelic marble. Polykleitos was said by the ancients to have created the ideal of the well-constructed athletic male type in sculpture and the bronze original of this statue was cited as the ideal expression of his art. 2nd century AD replica of the Greek fifth century BC original bronze (now lost).
All of the collection is hand made in London’ s iconic Hatton Garden jewellery district.
